Little Rock is in the southern state of Arkansas, which is relatively progressive.
The Governor of Arkansas, Orval Faubus, called The National Guard when a crisis erupted on Sept. 4th, so The National guard had to prevent African-American students from attending Little Rock High School.
Students were chosen to attended Central High, because of there excellent grades.
The first day of school only one student showed up do to a phone call that was about the danger of going to school.
She was harassed by whites on the outside of school and the police took her away in a patrol car to protect her.
These students had carpooled to school and there were only nine students that were escorted by military personnel in jeeps.
